To facilitate achieving the goals and needs of the armed forces, Force Protection needed more automation in their vehicle production line. Berenyi Inc. was chosen as structural designer and construction manager for the installation of the new automation line. Coordination between automotive, mechanical, electrical, and general contractor efforts was handled by Berenyi, Inc.

This fast-track project was completed in just eight weeks. Berenyi was tasked to provide the design for an assembly line for manufacturing MRAPs, special armored vehicles that protected troops being transported from mines, IEDs, snipers, etc., a much-needed support for the US troops in Iraq. The new line was laid out inside a very large building complex previously owned and used by GE to manufacture huge power generation turbines.

The Ladson, South Carolina project included 110,000 square feet of new assembly line with steel superstructure, foundations and utility support for the new line. One of the plant’s existing buildings was redesigned as a testing lab for the new armored vehicles, including dyno testing the engines and drive components, water intrusion resistance, carriage integrity during stressing.
