C. Scott Horton, PE, a structural engineer, and project manager for Berenyi, has spent his career working in industrial settings coordinating engineering & construction projects. He has managed Berenyi’s Sumter office since its opening in 2014 post his decade long tenure in Berenyi’s corporate office in Charleston.
Scott has been actively serving the Sumter community in many different capacities since moving there. He has taken part in the ongoing revitalization of the downtown Sumter Historic District and takes part in its many downtown charity events such as the Sumter Senior Services Sip & Stroll and Microbrew Festivals, and Sumter-Lee Economic Development/The Link eSTEAM festival. He has also been a member of the Sumter Rotary Club and received the Avenue of Service Award in 2019. He is a deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Scott was a founding board member of the Santee-Wateree chapter for CEF. He has also enjoyed coaching baseball for the Sumter PARD program and basketball for the YMCA program.
Prior to moving to Sumter, Scott was a member of the City of Hanahan Design Review Committee, actively involved in the Hanahan Exchange Club, and a board member of the Charleston Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Scott also dedicated over 2000 engineering volunteer hours to the nonprofit organization Water Mission, whose mission is to provide sustainable clean drinking water throughout the world. Scott received an award from the City of Hanahan for his work with Water Missions for designing the foundations for a water tower in Gorman, Haiti. After the earthquake, the tower remained standing as designed while all neighboring structures fell. The tower and safe drinking water it produced helped with the relief efforts there. Scott enjoys giving back to his community both professionally and philanthropically and looks forward to serving in either capacity.
