Quarters H&I Restoration – North Charleston, SC

The Post and Courier described this as “the finest architectural work on the former Charleston Naval Base.” Designed in 1903 and completed in 1905, Quarters H&I was originally used as offices for the Commandant and Captain of the Yard and holds a prominent position in Frederick Law Olmstead’s Chicora Park design. Berenyi Inc. provided architectural and structural engineering design as well and construction and construction management services. This $1.5 million restoration included replacing damaged and rotten wood structure and finishes, making sure that it was structurally sound, roof repairs, and refurbishment and repair of the detailed interior finishes and lighting.

The building is now home to the offices of the Charleston Naval Complex Redevelopment Authority (RDA).
